Melanie: I am a gypsy spirit who dreams of a life on the the road, traveling ocean to ocean in my vintage travel trailer. While waiting for that dream to become reality, I live in a suburban neighborhood complete with a clubhouse and matching mailboxes. To satisfy my craving for adventure and change, I redecorate my house on a weekly basis: repainting rooms on a whim, reworking vintage curtains into pillows and aprons, painting mid-century motifs on my walls when everyday artwork won't do.
I live for Flea Market Friday with my girlfriends and downtown antique shops are a constant mid-day distraction. I have an on-going love affair with books and maps and music that take me to far away places. When I am not painting something, I teach English to displaced refugees, tend my organic garden and blog about the life I live and the life I dream of.
I reside on the outskirts of Nashville, TN with my adored husband, two darling daughters and a little dog that thinks I hung the moon.
Melissa: I grew up in south Louisiana where the weather and food are hot and design is as dramatic as a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. I was influenced early on by my grandmother, who was an artist, sculptor, and owned her own design business called Nobles Contemporary House. My parents were influencial as well by furnishing our home with Mies Van de Roche Barcelona chairs, Eames loungers, and a Nelson Saucer lamp over our breakfast table. One hour away was New Orleans where I could emerse myself in creole design: high ceilings, texture, irreverence, and the unexpected. I
Fast forward several years, two children, and two moves later and I find myself always searching for "the find". Whether it be a table with several layers of paint on it or a lamp in desperate need of a shade, I am always looking for an interesting piece that hopefully has a story attached. But no matter when and where I am searching, I always want my friends by my side because without them it just isn't as fun.
Brandy: I am a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter and a friend. In my spare time, I am an avid decorator, culinary adventurer and aspiring fashionista. My family claims I suffer from “OCD” (Obsessive Compulsive Decorating). They actually play a game every week to determine what is new, what has been painted or what has been rearranged around the house. I pray I am not actually causing long term damage to my children. I like to think I am teaching them that change is good and you should embrace new surroundings and experiences.
I also love the thrill of the hunt for something unique and vintage. A weekly excursion to the local thrift store or the monthly Flea Market with my girlfriends is sure to reveal a new treasure. Rescuing items from the past and giving them a modern day twist is my signature look. Whether it is a shift dress from the 60s embellished with the perfect belt or a Hollywood Regency lamp balanced with the clean lines of a drum shade to give it new life, there is no substitute for having a one-of-a-kind piece.
When taking “OCD” breaks, I enjoy trips to the local Farmer’s Market, entertaining friends with new recipes or old favorites, discovering local restaurants and boutiques, or lounging with my family on our Chris Craft cruiser, “Fine Girl”.
